Elden Ring’s lifetime sales were beaten by Hogwarts Legacy in five weeks

Hogwarts Heritage has exceeded the UK’s Game of the Year winner in 2022 in just a month.

Elden Ring completely took over the internet when it launched, and quickly became FromSoftware’s most popular game. The brutal open-world RPG sold more than 20,000,000 units in the world just before its first anniversary. This is a huge number, especially when you consider the combined sales of all Soulsborne games, which total 27 million.

Elden Ring won the best accolade at The Game Awards. GamesIndustry.biz reports that the Wizarding World RPG is now more popular than Elden Ring in the UK. This comes after another week of Hogwarts legacy topping physical games charts.

This is not surprising considering that this game is based on one the most successful media franchises ever. Hogwarts Legacy sold 12,000,000 copies in just two weeks of its launch and quickly established itself as the most popular Harry Potter game. Many people boycotted it because of its association with J.K. Rowling continues to be criticized for making demeaning remarks about the trans community.

Elden Ring hasn’t been the only major title to see its sales surpass Hogwarts Heritage. It’s the top-selling Call of Duty title in Europe since 2017 and Red Dead Redemption 2.. It’s actually the sixth-largest launch since the European sales charts started. The five FIFA titles that are still at the top of the list are all FIFA games.

It is unlikely that Hogwarts Legacy sales will slow down anytime soon. The game will be released on PS4 and Xbox One in May, and on Nintendo Switch in July. There will be even more people who will want to get it.
